Important 8th Grade Celebration Information!

Hello 8th graders & families,

Two big events are happening this week and next, see below for all the details. All GW 8th graders are welcome to attend both events, no one will be denied entry to either event. The HSA has generously covered the cost of anyone who was not registered to allow these to be completely inclusive events.


Carnival: a fun afternoon during the school day with bbqlunch,large blow ups and games.

Date/time:Thursday 6/15 12-3pm

Location: GW/ Citizens field

Attire: Day of carnival will be warm- dress accordingly with proper athletic shoes for Citizens Field and don’t forget sunblock or a hat.

Food: Bring a water bottle to refill at water stations provided. BBQ Lunch will be served by Parkwood Deli -Burgers, hot dogs, and vegan burgers are options with chips. There will also be Rita’s Italian Ice, popcorn and cotton candy at the carnival.

Casino/White Promotion Party: Dinner, DJ, Casino games, Photobooth, Raffle prizes

Date/time:Tuesday 6/20 3pm-7pm

Location: The Womans Club of Ridgewood 215 W. Ridgewood Ave.(students should walk directly from school)

Check in: Students will enter at the side entrance on Monroe St., check in at the table and receive 5 raffle tickets, they will need to leave all bags in the coat room down stairs as soon as they arrive.

Attire: White attire requested (this is not mandatory and does not need to be formal). Students can either wear their outfit to school or change in the restrooms at the Woman’s Club when they arrive.

Food: Buffet dinner from Chestnut Deli, specialty drinks, popcorn machine and ice cream bar (including dairy/nut free option)- if you indicated a special dietary need during registration, you will receive a boxed dinner labeled with your name.

HSA Notices

GW/BF Film Festival The GW/BF Film festival strives to put forth an avenue for students to showcase their original work and have an opportunity to present their finished films during our festival. This year the festival will once again live on YouTube in order meet the audience members everywhere they are. In the future, we hope to grow the festival back to an in-person experience that will be even bigger and better than before. The 2023 GW/BF Film Festival entries and award announcements will debut on Wednesday, June 14th at 6:30pm. 2023 GW/BF Film Festival. Congratulations to all of the student filmmakers who created a film entry and to the winners!

George Rockington in Concert! Come see George Rockington, the GW student-teacher music group, live in concert at the GWMS Auditorium on Friday, June 16th, at 7pm. The group will perform hits from bands like Nirvana, Metallica, Pink Floyd, Primus, Owl City, and Harry Styles. Student musicians Ernie Arnt-Schemmel, Brody Block, Jamie DiMaulo, Max Dulli, Odysseus Flynn, Brody Frers, Anderson Joseph, Lily Joseph, Elijah Perlman, Naveen Saggar and Charles Rottinger will be featured, supported by staff members Rob Betrus, Andy Couch, Kevin Feeley, and Chris Watkins. A 100% family-friendly show, tickets are $10 (sold in advance in-school, and at the door) with proceeds benefiting Camp Sunshine here in Ridgewood.

GWMS Orchestra Trip to Italy - Sponsors Needed! The GWMS Orchestra is planning a very special trip to perform in Italy in the Fall 2023. This trip will not only provide a culturally rich education to our students, it will also provide them an amazing opportunity to perform their instruments in various Italian villages for the locals. Students will be immersed in the Italian culture through various tours of Rome, Venice and Florence as well as partaking in cooking and mask making classes. Any donation is greatly appreciated and will benefit our entire ensemble. All donors will be listed on our special social media page as well as receive additional advertising opportunities

School Supply Kits for next school year are on sale now! Go to https://www.shopttkits.com and enter GW's account number - 89375 - and choose your child's grade for the 2023-2024 school year. Kits will be delivered to your home prior to the start of school. (Optional calculators purchased will be distributed separately.) All orders must be placed by the last day of school, June 22, 2023. 2023/2024 GW HSA Executive Board Thank you to the Nominating Chairs, Heather Zarnett-Letscher and Michelle Stewart for identifying the 2023/2024 GWMS HSA Executive Board. Please vote to approve the proposed slate of Board Members for this coming year!

GWMS Notices & Reminders

EARLY DISMISSAL PROCEDURE

We do all we can not to interrupt your child's class during instruction time. It is important for all Early Dismissal requests to please follow the instructions below:

If your student needs to be dismissed before the end of the school day, you must give them a signed note indicating the reason for the request. This must be brought to the Main Office by the student at the start of the school day. The student will receive an Early Dismissal pass. At the start of the designated period, they will show the teacher the pass so they can leave the class at the designated time and report to the Main Office to await pick up.

TARDY POLICY

Classes begin at 8 am. Students are expected to be in their classroom when the 8:00 bell has rung. If your child will be tardy for any reason, you must call the Absence line at 201-670-2784 prior to 8:45 am. All reasons for tardiness require a phone call. If a student does not make it to class by 8 am, he/she will be marked tardy. After 8 am, your child should go directly to the Main office to obtain a late pass. Ongoing tardiness may be dealt with at the discretion of the Administrators.
